Looking Forward
The following is meant to give you a glimpse into what you might expect from the CARLA Labs over the next six to twelve months, keeping in mind that things are always subject to change due to a host of possible variables. But with perseverance and a little luck...
During the first half of 2008 we plan to link Carla 18, located in Topaz Nevada, into the rest of the system on a full time basis (its currently linked in part time via EchoIRLP with the generous assistance of W6SUV, George, who lives near the site). Once completed, Carla 18 will also have full local and link PL capability. (Ed. Note: This was completed in mid-June!)
We are also planning to upgrade Carla 17, located in the Sonora area, to a full "Carla Spec" system with full local and link PL capability. (Ed. Note: This was completed in mid-February!)
By the end of 2008 we're hoping to have the Carla 2 repeater, located in San Francisco, rebuilt from the ground up so that it will operate the same as the other repeaters in the Carla system with local and link PL's. (Ed. Note: For those Carla 2 old timers, yes, we'll be keeping the remote base.) (Ed. Note II: This was completed in mid-October!)
We are also looking to start a periodic users get-together brunch after mid-year. This will probably happen a couple of times per year and the location will change each time in the hopes that all of our members will be able to attend one event or another. The first one will be in the S.F. Bay Area on December 6.
